The theme of World Youth Day 2017 was taken from Our Lady’s song of praise, the Magnificat, ‘The Mighty One has done great things for me’. The Pope has chosen to focus on Mary for the nex year. Francis has asked young people to journey with Mary, describing her as ‘a role model to be imitated’. Following a Year of Mary will be an opportunity to introduce the children to the many names and images of Our Lady and to allow them to come closer to Mary, the mother of God, and our Mother.

In school we are celebrating a Year of Mary.  The children will be given the opportunity to visit a prayer space to reflect on the virtues of Mary. Their prayers, thoughts and reflections will be placed onto a display in the hall. Each month we have chosen a different virtue shown by Mary as our prayer focus:

January ~ Loving

February ~ Charitable

March ~ Faith filled

April ~ Obedient

May ~ Showing humility

June ~ Generous

July ~ Grateful

September ~ Wise

October ~ Attentive

November ~ Compassionate

December ~ Hopeful
