Our Eco Committee have been busy again improving our school environment!
During our after school eco club on Thursday 22nd March we prepared the ground for planting by raking up the old leaves. Then we measured out the plot and laid the young saplings out in a line. It was hard work cutting out a T shape slot as the soil was very claggy!
The Eco warriors took turns to carefully place each young hedge plant in the ground and support it with a bamboo cane. Each young plant has its own tube to protect it as it establishes its roots and grows.
The hedge is made up of 30 plants – a mixture of sweet scented dog rose, hawthorn, hazel, crab apple and dogwood which will provide a valuable food source for wildlife and birds.
The saplings will soon grow to form a colourful green screen between our car park and the school play areas.
