This week in RE we have been looking at other faiths. We have been leaning all about Judaism. We have been studying all about the culture and how their beliefs and culture differ to our. As well as our work in class we had a special visitor come to talk to us all on Thursday 29th November. Deanna Van der Velde from the Synagogue in Newcastle. She spoke to EYFS and Key Stage 1 about the special festival of Hanukkah, which will begin this Sunday evening. She told the children the story of how it all began and how it is remembered today using the Menorah. Key Stage 2 learnt all about Sabbat, the day when all Jewish people rest, as God did on the seventh day. The children also had the opportunity to try some Jewish foods and foods that are typically used during these festivals. It was so good to gain all this new knowledge first hand and have the opportunity to ask questions about this interesting faith. We were so grateful to Deanna for sharing it all with us in such an amazing way.
