As part of Year 2’s Creative Curriculum topic ‘Bright Lights Big City’ they learnt all about the Great Fire of London and the Great Fire of Gateshead. The children discovered that one of the reasons the fire spread was due to how the houses were made and how close together they were. At Beamish the children were able to compare the houses and life of the past with how we live today. The children experienced first hand how people lived, shopped, worked and got about! They were able to interact with all the ‘characters’ at Beamish and asked lots of questions about life in the past. The children returned to school full of their new knowledge and wrote some amazing recounts of the fantastic day!
