Studies show that reading for pleasure makes a big difference to children’s educational performance. Here’s how you can get your child off to a great start. Evidence suggests that children who read for enjoyment every day not only perform better in reading tests than those who don’t, but also develop a broader vocabulary, increased general knowledge and a better understanding of other cultures.
This year we have began an initiative called “Must Reads”. The children will bring home a selection of books to read and share with their families. They include fiction and non-fiction books. When the children have read the book they will complete a book review and receive a special sticker which will go onto their own ‘MUST READ’ book mark. When children have read all the books their names will go into a draw and they will have the chance of winning a Waterstone’s book voucher.
